Shemar Franklin made his debut in the American television soap opera ‘The Young and the Restless’ in 1994. He portrayed Malcolm Winters in the series which earned him 6 ‘NAACP Image Awards’ along with a ‘Daytime Emmy Award.’ He remained a part of the show until 2005. Franklin made his big-screen debut in the 1997 American romantic comedy film ‘Hav Plenty’ directed by Christopher Scott Cherot. The film received mostly positive reviews from critics. After appearing in films like ‘Butter’ (1998) and ‘The Brothers’ (2001), Franklin joined the American action science-fiction drama television series ‘Birds of Prey’ in 2002. He played the role of ‘Jesse Reese’ and remained a part of the show until it went off-air in 2003. He next appeared in television series and films such as ‘Chasing Alice’ (2003), ‘Nikki and Nora’ (2004), ‘Reversible Errors’ (2004), and ‘Half & Half’ (2004). In 2005, he starred as ‘Derek Morgan’ in the American police procedural crime drama television series ‘Criminal Minds’ created by Jeff Davis. Franklin remained a part of the show until 2017. He was next seen in films like ‘Motives 2’ (2007), ‘Kill Me, Deadly’ (2013), ‘Justice League: War’ (2014), ‘Justice League: Throne of Atlantis’ (2015), ‘The Bounce Back’ (2016), and ‘Justice League vs. Teen Titans’ (2016).Â
In 2017, he joined the main cast of the American action drama television series, ‘S.W.A.T.’ The series was renewed for a fifth season in 2020 which premiered in October 2021. In 2020, he voiced ‘Victor Stone / Cyborg’ in the American direct-to-video adult animated superhero film ‘Justice League Dark: Apokolips War’ directed by Matt Peters and Christina Sotta. The film saw critical acclaim upon release and earned an amazing 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. He is all set to appear in the upcoming action-adventure comedy film ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2.’
