Long John Baldry was an English-Canadian blues singer and voice actor who was known for his contribution to the blues music in Britain. As a voice actor, he lent his voice in numerous animated television series and movies; however, he was most known for voicing the characters of KOMPLEX, the ruler of the Toad empire in the 13 episodes of TV series ‘Bucky O'Hare and the Toad Wars’ (1991) and Dr. Ivo Robotnik, the main antagonist in ‘Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog’ (1993). The former series was based on the cult comic book ‘Bucky O'Hare’ and inspired a video game ‘Bucky O'Hare: The Arcade Game’ in 1992 in which he once again voiced the same character. The latter series was based on the ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ video game series. A television special ‘Sonic's Christmas Blast’ wherein he once again voiced Dr. Ivo Robotnik was broadcasted in the year 1996.
Before these two series; however, Long John Baldry began by lending his voice to the role of The Major General, Monarch Of The Sea in the 1975 film ‘Dick Deadeye, or Duty Done’. Thereafter he provided additional voices in the first season of the TV series ‘Star Wars: Ewoks’ (1985). In 1985-1986, he did voiceover for Proto One, The Great Heep in 5 episodes of the TV series ‘Star Wars: Droids’. This was followed by voice roles in the 33 episodes of ‘Captain N: The Game Master’ (1989–1991, roles: King Charles, Little John, Clock Man, The Poltergeist King), 25 episodes of ‘Captain Zed and the Zee Zone’ (1991–1992, role: Captain Spring) and 20 episodes of ‘Madeline’ (1993-1994, role: Greybeard the Pirate). Other than these, Long John Baldry also narrated the tv series ‘Dragon Warrior’ (1991) and lent his voice in the TV special ‘A Klondike Christmas’ (1990, role: Bear-Paw) as well as a film ‘The Comic Book Christmas Caper’ (1990).
Between 1991 and 1998, he voiced the titular role of Nilus the Sandman in 3 television movies and 1 television series. The TV movies were ‘Nilus the Sandman: The Boy Who Dreamed Christmas’ (1991), ‘Nilus the Sandman: Monsters in the Closet’ (1994) and ‘Nilus the Sandman: The First Day’ (1995) while the 26 episodes television series was called ‘Nilus the Sandman’ (1996-1998). In between, he provided additional voices in 7 episodes of TV series shorts ‘Hurricanes’ (1994-1996) and did voiceovers in 11 episodes of ‘ReBoot’ (1994-1998, role: Captain Capacitor/Old Man Pearson) and 4 episodes of ‘The Adventures of Corduroy’ (1996-1997, role: Mr. Tusk).
In 1998, he voiced the character of Merlin in the film ‘Camelot: The Legend’. The same year, he joined the voice cast of ‘Pocket Dragon Adventures’ and provided additional voice in its 104 episodes. Also in 1998, he voiced Golden Volcano God in an episode of ‘Fat Dog Mendoza’ and began voice acting for ‘RoboCop: Alpha Commando’ for which he eventually worked for 40 episodes till 1999. This was followed by voiceover work in 65 episodes of ‘Sabrina the Animated Series’ (1999–2000, role: Captain Jean Lafitte, Additional voices) and 26 episodes ‘Toad Patrol’ (2002–2003, role: Mistle-Toad). In 2002, Long John Baldry lent his voice in the miniseries ‘Snow Queen’ (Voice of Rutger the Reindeer) and the next year, he did voiceover work for the drama film ‘Ben Hur’ (role: Balthazar). His final work as a voice actor was in short film ‘Mary Engelbreit's the Night Before Christmas’ (2004, role: Augustus).
Dick Deadeye is assigned by Queen Victoria to recover an ‘Ultimate Secret’, from two thieves named the Sorcerer and the Shameleon, which they intend to sell to the Pirate King.
