Katy Jurado was a Mexican actress, who rose to recognition during the time of what’s known as ‘Golden Age of Mexican’ cinema (1940s–1950s). She is best remembered for her performance as ‘Helen Ramírez’ in the American western film ‘High Noon’ (1952). Katy became the first Latin American woman to win a ‘Golden Globe’ for the film. She was also the first to earn an ‘Oscar’ nomination for her performance as ‘Señora Deverreaux’ in the 1954 film ‘Broken Lance.’ She made her film debut as ‘Susana’ in the Mexican film ‘No matarás’ (1943). Some of her popular films are ‘Girls Boarding School’ (1943), ‘El Bruto’ (1953), ‘Trapeze’ (1956), ‘The Hi-Lo Country’ (1998), and ‘A Beautiful Secret’ (2002). Some of her unsuccessful film projects include ‘Stay Away, Joe’ (1968) and ‘Seduction’ (1981). Some of her TV appearances came in series, such as ‘The Rifleman’ (1959), ‘The Eleventh Hour’ (1962), and ‘a.k.a. Pablo’ (1984).
