Ji Chang-wook’s first screen appearance was in ‘Days…’ (2006), followed by bit part in the TV-show ‘You Stole My Heart’ (2008). However, ‘Sleeping Beauty’ (2008) is considered as his debut movie.
Next, Ji starred as ‘a diffident 20-year-old’ in TV-series ‘My Too Perfect Sons’ (2009), followed by a secondary role in action-comedy TV-series ‘Hero’ (2009).
Daily TV-drama ‘Smile Again’ (2010), wherein he played lead role as ice-speed skater, fetched him nominations and ‘KBS Drama Award for Best Actor.’ His title role as swordsman ‘Baek Dong-soo’ in successful historical-action series ‘Warrior Baek Dong-soo’ (2011) brought him SBS’s ‘New Star Award.’
Ji’s main role in TV-series ‘Bachelor’s Vegetable Store’ (2011-2012), based on true success story, was followed by a negative characterization in melodrama-series ‘Five Fingers’ (2012) earning nominations.
Historical drama-series ‘Empress Ki’ (2013-2014) provided him breakthrough role as Yuan Dynasty’s 16th Emperor ‘Toghon Temur,’ which won him rave reviews, nominations and awards. His central role in action-thriller series ‘Healer’ (2014-2015) fetched further acclaim across Asia leading to a starring role in Chinese series ‘The Whirlwind Girl’ (2015).
After playing lead as ‘Bodyguard’ in series ‘The K2’ (2016), Ji further appeared in action-film ‘Fabricated City,’ and romantic-comedy series ‘Suspicious Partner’ in 2017, both of which won nominations.
Following his mandatory military service, Ji starred as ‘a TV-producer’ in romantic-comedy series ‘Melting Me Softly’ (2019), and thereafter, in ‘Backstreet Rookie’ (2020), a romantic-comedy series based on Web-toon.
Ji further starred in streaming TV-series based on true stories ‘Love-struck in the City’ (2020), and thriller-film ‘Restricted Call’ (2021).
