English stage and film actor, George Blagden first film releases came in the year 2012 with the action fantasy film ‘Wrath of the Titans’ and the period musical film ‘Les Misérables’. In the former, which was a sequel to the 2010 movie ‘Clash of the Titans’, he played the role of Soldier No. 1. In the latter, he played the role of Grantaire, a member of the student society. ‘Les Misérables’ received positive reviews from the critics and was commercially successful. The movie also won him, along with other cast members, the Best Ensemble awards at the ‘National Board of Review of Motion Pictures Awards’, ‘Satellite Awards’ and ‘Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association Awards’. In 2013, he was seen in the role of Andy in the sci-fi psychological thriller film ‘After the Dark’. The same year he joined the cast of historical drama TV series ‘Vikings’ wherein he played one of the main roles – that of the Anglo-Saxon monk Athelstan – in the first three seasons of the show. In its fourth season, which aired in 2016, he had a recurring role. In between, he played the role of Jake Norman in the western horror thriller film ‘Blood Moon’ in 2014 and additionally acted in three short films in 2015. These were ‘Holding on for a Good Time’, ‘The Tap Tap Lady’ and ‘Blight’. For another 2015 short film ‘Sunday Lunch’, he lent his voice.
The year 2015 also saw George Blagden in the lead role of Louis XIV, King of France in the historical drama TV series ‘Versailles’. He played the role in the three seasons of the series till 2018 and is most known for his work in it. In 2017, he acted in an episode of the anthology series ‘Black Mirror’ and the romance comedy drama film ‘No Postage Necessary’. Since 2019, he has worked in the drama film ‘How You Look at Me’ (2019), the horror film ‘The 100 Candles Game’ (2020) and the sci-fi drama film ‘Rubikon’ (2022). Additionally, he worked in a short film ‘Lara’ and lent his voice in a video game titled ‘Troy: A Total War Saga’ (both 2020). His upcoming films are ‘The Land of Dreams’ and ‘The Gallery’.
As a stage actor, George Blagden has worked in several theatre productions including leading roles in ‘Platinum’ (2016-2017) and ‘The Pitchfork Disney’ (2017). In 2018, he was also a part of the main cast of the theatre production of ‘Tartuffe’ and ‘Company’.
