Bojana Novakovic made her first screen appearance in a minor role in the TV series ‘House of Fun’ (1994). In 1997, she played ‘Tracy’ in the Australian teen drama thriller ‘Blackrock’ and also appeared in the Australian TV show ‘Heartbreak High.’
Novakovic next appeared alongside Michaela Noonan in the Australian film ‘Strange Fits of Passion’ (1999), followed by the lesbian-themed thriller ‘The Monkey’s Mask’ (2000) and the Australian film about music fans, ‘Thunderstruck’ (2004).
Novakovic’s lead role as ‘Randa’ in Australian miniseries ‘Making Time’ (2003) earned her an ‘AFI Award for Best Actress in Lead Role.’ Next she was cast in main roles in two Australian drama-series ‘The Cooks’ (2004-2005) and ‘Satisfaction’ (2007-2009), and then starred in TV-film ‘BlackJack: At the Gates’ (2006).
In 2006, Novakovic appeared in Australian film ‘Solo,’ and Serbian black-comedy film ‘The Optimists,’ followed by American drama-film starring Will Smith, ‘Seven Pounds’ (2008) and Sam Raimi’s supernatural horror-film ‘Drag me to Hell’ (2009). Her role in Mel Gibson-starrer conspiracy action-thriller ‘Edge of Darkness’ (2010) fetched her AFI nomination for ‘International award for Best Actress.’
Novakovic had a starring role as ‘Sarah’ in supernatural horror-film ‘Devil’ and played ‘Mina’ in Serbian film ‘Skinning’ (both 2010). She was seen in Australian drama-film ‘Burning Man’ (2011) and 2012’s comedy-films ‘Not Suitable for Children’ and ‘The King is Dead.’ Her starrer ‘Charlie’s Country’ (2013) was selected for screening at ‘2014 Cannes Film Festival.’
In 2015’s independent drama-film ‘Generation Um…’ Novakovic starred alongside Keanu Reeves and Adelaide Clemens. Further she played starring role in comedy-drama TV-series ‘Rake’ (2013-2014), then played ‘Det. Needham’ in American police-procedural drama-series ‘Instinct’ (2018-2019), and recurring roles in American comedy-drama TV-series ‘Shameless’ (2015-2016) and Australian comedy-drama series ‘Operation Buffalo’ (2020). She also starred in TV-films ‘Casanova’ (2015) and ‘Agatha’ (2015).
Novakovic won several accolades for her Australian stage performances and has her own theater company ‘Ride on Theater.’
After Australian sex-comedy film ‘The Little Death’ (2014), Novakovic starred in horror-film ‘The Hallow’ (2015), biographical sports-film ‘I, Tonya’ (2017), sci-fi action-film ‘Beyond Skyline’ (2017), headlined American horror-thriller film ‘Malicious’ (2018) and superhero film ‘Birds of Prey’ (2020). Her most recent starring role was in Australian drama-series ‘Love Me’ (2021).
