Sibel Kekilli was first seen in the 2002 adult video ‘Amateure intim.’ She made her big-screen debut in the 2004 German-Turkish drama film ‘Head-On’ directed by Fatih Akın. The film garnered praise from critics and received a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Kekilli also received the ‘German Film Award’ and the ‘Bambi Award’ for her performance in the film. She next starred in films like ‘Kebab Connection’ (2004), ‘Winter Journey’ (2006), ‘Fay Grim’ (2006), ‘The Last Train’ (2006), ‘Home Coming’ (2006), and ‘Pihalla’ (2009). She became a recipient of the ‘Lola Award’ and the ‘Tribeca Prize’ for her portrayal ‘Umay’ in the 2010 German-Turkish drama film ‘When We Leave’ directed by Feo Aladag.
