Raj Kapoor was an Indian film actor, director and producer. Born to actor Prithviraj Kapoor and a member of the prestigious Kapoor family, he is regarded as one of the most influential actors and filmmakers in the history of Hindi cinema. The actor made his debut at the age of 10 with ‘Inquilab’ (1935). His big break came with the lead role in Kidar Sharma's ‘Neel Kamal’ (1947). This was followed by his directional debut ‘Aag’ (1948) in which he also starred.
Raj Kapoor’s first major success actor was 'Andaz' (1949). That year, he also had his first success as a director, producer and actor with ‘Barsaat’ (1949). He then went on to make and act in the hit movies including 'Dastan' (1950), 'Bawre Nain' (1950), ‘Awaara’ (1951), 'Bewafa' (1952), 'Boot Polish' (1954), Shree 420 (1955), Jagte Raho (1956)  ‘Jis Desh Men Ganga Behti Hai (1960), 'Chhalia' (1960) and 'Sangam' (1964).
As a director, Raj Kapoor’s highest-grossing films are 'Bobby' (1973), 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram' (1978), 'Prem Rog' (1982) and 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili' (1985).
His biggest cult film is considered to be ‘Mera Naam Joker’ (1970). The list of his flop films include 'Valmiki' (1946), 'Dil-Ki-Rani' (1947), 'Pyaar' (1950), 'Paapi' (1953), ‘Around the World’ (1966) and ‘Sapnon Ka Saudagar’ (1968), to name a few.
Awaara is a crime drama film which tells the story of Raj, a petty thief, who was forced to turn to crime due to his life of poverty. He kills his employer after his mother is attacked. He is arrested, but soon, he finds himself in a shock to discover that the judge is his estranged father. However, his father is not aware of this fact.
