Actor-screenwriter-filmmaker Greta Celeste Gerwig started with minor roles in ‘LOL’ (2006), ‘Baghead’ (2008). Collaborating with Joe Swanberg, she co-wrote ‘Hannah Takes the Stairs’ (2007); and co-directed and co-starred in the comedy ‘Nights & Weekends’ (2009).
After appearing in few 2008 movies, including horror-movie ‘The House of Devil,’ in 2010, she featured in ‘Art-House,’ ‘Northern Comfort,’ ‘The Dish & the Spoon’ and Noah Baumbach’s ‘Greenberg.’
Gerwig was seen in ‘No Strings Attached,’ ‘Damsel in Distress,’ and ‘Arthur’ in 2011. She was part of Woody Allen’s ‘To Rome With Love,’ and rom-com ‘Lola Versus,’ (2012). She provided voice-over to the animated film ‘China, IL’ (2011-2015).
Gerwig co-wrote and starred in Baumbach’s comedy-drama ‘Frances Ha,’ (2012) which fetched her appreciation and nominations. In 2014, she worked in ‘Eden,’ and starred alongside Al Pacino in ‘The Humbling.’ She made her well-received theater debut with ‘The Village Bike’ (2014).
Gerwig co-wrote, co-produced and starred in Baumbach’s ‘Mistress America’ and played lead in ‘Maggie’s Plan,’ in 2015. Her performances in ‘Jackie’ and ‘Weiner-Dog’ was noted and she won praise for ‘20th Century Women.’
As a solo director she helmed ‘Lady Bird’ (2017) and ‘Little Women’ (2019), which earned her high acclaim and several prestigious nominations and awards.
