David Kross made his acting debut in the 2002 fantasy drama film ‘Hilfe, ich bin ein Junge’ directed by Oliver Dommenget. In 2006, he starred as ‘Michael Polischka’ in the German film ‘Knallhart’ directed by Detlev Buck. The film was based on Gregor Tessnow’s novel of the same name. He next portrayed ‘Krabat’ in the 2008 German fantasy film ‘Krabat’ directed by Marco Kreuzpaintner. The film drew its inspiration from Otfried Preußler's1971 novel of the same name. That same year, he also played the role of a ‘Young Michael Berg’ in the Stephen Daldry-directed romantic drama film, ‘The Reader.’ The film received mixed to positive reviews from critics and was a major box office success, grossing over $108.9 million on a budget of $32 million. Kross also became a recipient of the ‘Las Vegas Film Critics Award’ for his performance in the film. He was next seen in films like ‘Same Same But Different’ (2009), ‘Das Blaue vom Himmel’ (2011), and ‘Rio’ (2011). In 2011, he starred as ‘Private Gunther Schröder’ in the war film ‘War Horse’ directed by Steven Spielberg. The film was warmly received by critics and performed well at the box office, grossing over $177.6 million on a $70 million budget.

Kross was last seen in the 2021 Matthew Vaughn-directed spy action film ‘The King's Man’ where he played the role of ‘Adolf Hitler.’ The film received a mixed response from critics and grossed over $125.9 million on a budget of $100 million.
