Charles Michael ‘Chuck’ Lorre, considered the ‘King of Sitcoms,’ started his career with song-writing and then made scriptwriting debut with children’s animated-series ‘Heathcliff’ (1984), followed by scriptwriting for ‘Pole Position’ (1984), ‘M.A.S.K.’ (1985), ‘Muppet Babies’ (1985), ‘Moondreamers’ (1986), ‘Defenders of Earth’ (1986-1987), ‘My Two Dads’ (1987-1990), and others.
Lorre wrote and executive-produced the popular sitcom ‘Roseanne’ (1988-1997, 2018), winning a ‘Golden Globe Award,’ and an opportunity to create his first sitcom, ‘Frannie’s Turn’ (1992).
Lorre was the creator, writer, and executive-producer for ‘Grace under Fire’ (1993-1998), a sitcom about a struggling actress and single mother of two, which earned him ‘Golden Globe nomination for Best Series.’ His next show, ‘Cybill’ (1995-1998) won him acclaim and also the ‘Golden Globe Award for Best TV-Series—Musical or Comedy’ for both lead and supporting actresses.
Thereafter, Lorre created, executive-produced, wrote and directed the sitcom ‘Dharma & Greg’ (1997-2002), a story of two contrasting characters, winning multiple Emmy, Golden Globe and other nominations. Along with Lee Aransohn, Lorre created ‘Two and a Half Men’ (2003-2015), which was about two brothers forced by circumstances to live together. Though it suffered due to issues with lead man (Charlie Sheen), the sitcom achieved high ratings.
Lorre’s next show about two scientists and their attractive neighbor, ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ (2007-2019) reached highest ratings for comedy series. In 2008, he wrote for the forensics procedural series ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’ followed by ‘Mike & Molly’ (2010-2016) as writer, executive-producer.
Lorre co-created the sitcom ‘Mom’ (2013-2021), which is about a dysfunctional mother-daughter pair. He next created the Netflix sitcom ‘Disjointed’ (2017-2018) and a spinoff prequel to ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ and coming-of-age sitcom ‘Young Sheldon’ (2017-present).
The Netflix comedy-drama ‘The Kominsky Method’ (2018-2021), which Lorre created-wrote-executive-produced and directed, brought him ‘Golden Globe Award for Best TV Series—Musical or Comedy,’ and several nominations.
