Brian Blessed made his debut as ‘PC “Fancy” Smith’ in the British television police procedural series ‘Z-Cars’ in 1962. He remained a part of the show till 1965. In 1966, Blessed made his film debut in the British children's adventure film ‘The Christmas Tree.’ He next appeared in television series such as ‘Ghost Squad’ (1963), ‘The Three Musketeers’ (1966-1967), ‘The Troubleshooters’ (1968), ‘Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)’ (1969), and ‘The Wednesday Play’ (1969-1970).
In 1971, Blessed appeared in 4 television series, including the children's series ‘Jackanory’ and the detective drama series ‘The Expert.’ That same year, he also starred as ‘Talthybius’ in the American-British-Greek drama film ‘The Trojan Women’ directed by Michael Cacoyannis. In 1976, he joined the cast of ‘I, Claudius,’ the television adaptation of Robert Graves' 1934 novel ‘I, Claudius’ and its 1935 sequel ‘Claudius the God.’ He portrayed the first Roman emperor ‘Caesar Augustus’ on the show. Blessed was next seen in television series like ‘Survivors’ (1977), ‘The Little World of Don Camillo’ (1981), ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’ (1983), ‘The Black Adder’ (1983), ‘Doctor Who’ (1986), The Castle of Adventure’ (1990), ‘Lady Chatterley’ (1993), and ‘Adam's Family Tree’ (1999).
In 2007, he joined the cast of the British medical soap opera ‘Doctors.‘ He played the role of ‘Dominic Duvall / Micky 'Rebel' Becket’ and remained on the show until 2011. In 2010, Blessed became a part of the British preschool animated television series ‘Peppa Pig.’ He still appears on the show and voices the character ‘Grampy Rabbit.’
Apart from television, Blessed has also starred in films like ‘Alexander’ (2004), ‘The Conclave’ (2006), ‘The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists’ (2012), ‘Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return’ (2014), and ‘Shed of the Dead’ (2019). He was last seen in the 2021 American computer-animated science fantasy film ‘Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans’ directed by Johane Matte, Francisco Ruiz Velasco, and Andrew Schmidt. The film was released on Netflix and received a positive response from critics.
