Takashi Miike made his directorial debut with the 1991 Japanese action film ‘Lady Hunter: Prelude to Murder.’ The same year, he also directed the action comedy film ‘Eyecatch Junction’ written by Akio Takemoto and Hiro Masaki. While it was Miike’s second film, Eyecatch Junction was released before Lady Hunter: Prelude to Murder. It later came to be considered one of the best horror films ever made. In 2000, Miike directed the Japanese horror crime television series ‘MPD Psycho.’ The show was inspired by Eiji Ōtsuka’s manga series of the same name. He next directed the 2001 Japanese action film ‘Ichi the Killer’ written by Sakichi Sato. The film received a 65% approval score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The film received mostly positive reviews from critics and grossed over ¥540 million at the box office. He next directed films like ‘Shield of Straw’ (2013), ‘As the Gods Will’ (2014), ‘The Lion Standing in the Wind’ (2015), ‘Terra Formars’ (2016), ‘Blade of the Immortal’ (2017), ‘Laplace's Witch’ (2018), ‘First Love’ (2019), ‘Secret × Heroine Phantomirage!’ (2020), and ‘Bittomo × Heroine Kirameki Powers!’ (2021). A Yakuza boss named Anjo disappears with an amount of 300 million yen. His chief henchman Kakihara, begins to search for him, along with the others. They eventually capture a rival Yakuza member, in their quest for answers, and torture him. They soon realize that they have the wrong guy. Things get ugly when they come across Ichi, a sexually repressed young man possessing amazing martial arts abilities.
