McIver’s first TV appearance came in the soap opera ‘Shortland Street’ (1993), followed by the fantasy TV movie series ‘Hercules: The Legendary Journey’ (1994-1995). She next appeared in various TV series, including ‘Riding High’ (1995), ‘City Life’ (1996), ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ (1999), ‘Mercy Peak’ (2002), and TV movies ‘Murder in Greenwich’ (2002) and ‘Maiden Voyage’ (2004).

She was cast as the lead in the fantasy TV series ‘Maddigan’s Quest’ (2006) and played the main role as ‘Constance’ in the comedy drama series ‘Rude Awakening’ (2007).
McIver received her big break in Peter Jackson’s supernatural thriller drama film ‘The Lovely Bones’ (2009) as sister of the protagonist, followed by a role as ‘Maybelle’ in the comedy horror film ‘Predicament’ (2010).
McIver next played ‘Summer Landsdown Ranger Yellow’ in the TV series ‘Power Rangers RPM’ (2009), and appeared as ‘cheerleader Candice’ in the comedy series ‘Super City’ (2011). In the supernatural procedural crime drama series ‘iZombie’ (2015-2019), she played ‘Olivia ‘Liv’ Moore’ which brought her popularity and nominations. On television, she essayed the main role in the comedy series ‘Woke’ (2020-2022) and the sitcom ‘Ghosts’ (2020-2022).
