Nicholas Tse made his acting debut in the 1998 Hong Kong crime film ‘Young and Dangerous: The Prequel,’ directed by Andrew Lau. He won the ‘Hong Kong Film Award’ for his performance in the film. In 1999, he starred as ‘Jack’ in the Benny Chan-directed Hong Kong action crime comedy film ‘Gen-X Cops.’ The film grossed over HK$15 million at the box office. That same year, he also appeared in the Hong Kong wuxia film ‘A Man Called Hero,’ directed by Andrew Lau. The film received the ‘Golden Horse Award’ for ‘Best Visual Effects.’ He was next seen in films such as ‘Winner Takes All’ (2000), ‘Time and Tide’ (2000), ‘Comic King’ (2001), ‘2002’ (2001), ‘Tiramisu’ (2002), ‘The Medallion’ (2003), ‘Jade Goddess of Mercy’ (2004), and ‘Moving Targets’ (2004). Tse became a recipient of the ‘Hundred Flowers Award’ for his portrayal of ‘Frank Cheng Siu-fung’ in the 2004 Hong Kong action film ‘New Police Story,’ directed by Benny Chan. The film grossed over HK$21 million at the box office. The following year, he starred as ‘Duke Wuhuan’ in the Chinese epic fantasy film ‘The Promise,’ directed by Chen Kaige. The film was not well-received by critics, especially in China where the makers were accused of damaging the area of Yunnan while shooting.

In 2014, he played the role of ‘Cool’ in the Hong Kong-Chinese crime comedy film ‘From Vegas to Macau,’ directed by Wong Jing. The film grossed over US$95.9 million at the box office. Tse went on to star in films such as ‘12 Golden Ducks’ (2015), ‘Love That Crazy Little Thing’ (2016), ‘Heartfall Arises’ (2016), ‘Cook Up a Storm’ (2017), ‘Air Strike’ (2018), and ‘Undercover Punch and Gun’ (2019). He was last seen in the 2021 Hong Kong-Chinese action film ‘Raging Fire,’ directed by Benny Chan. The film received mostly positive reviews from critics and grossed over US$225 million at the box office.
