Itziar Ituno Martinez, who often appears in her native Basque language films and TV-series, made her screen debut in 1996 short-films ‘Ricardo,’ ‘La leccion,’ and ‘Al, Ben & Gail.’ Her first movie appearance was in the TV film ‘Agur, Olentzero, agur!’ (1997) followed by the short-film ‘Otxate’ (198).
Next, Ituno was cast as ‘Policewoman Nekane Beitia’ in the soap opera ‘Goenkale,’ wherein she had recurring role during 1999-2001; she was part of the 1main cast during 2005-2015. She appeared in more than 1500 episodes of the series gaining popularity, especially in Basque-speaking areas of Northern Spain.
Further, Ituno played lead roles in Spanish films ‘El final de la noche’ (2003) and ‘Agajeros en el cielo’ (2004), followed by several short-films, including ‘Sere tus ojos’ (2005), ‘Silencios’ (2007), ‘Entereza’ (2008). She played a supporting role in the TV show ‘Teilatupean’ (2000-2001) and also the feature film ‘Izarren Argia’ (2010).
Ituno was cast in lead roles in ‘Dragoi Ehiztaria’ (2010), the Basque-language Spanish drama-film ‘Loreak’ (2014), which was released as ‘Flowers’ in the US and was Spanish submission for Academy Awards; ‘Lasa eta zabala’ (2014), ‘Basque Selfie’ (2018) and the TV film ‘Sabin’ (2014).
Thereafter, Ituno played supporting roles in several such films as ‘Un otono sin Berlin’ (2015), ‘Igelak’ (2016), ‘Morir’ (2017), the Basque-language period fantasy dark-comedy horror film ‘Errementari’ (2017), and as ‘Doctor Guevara’ in the Spanish adventure psychological mystery crime-thriller ‘El silencio de la ciudad blanca’ (2017).
Ituno made guest-appearances in several TV shows, including ‘Kilker dema,’ (2002), ‘Platos sucios’ (2002), the sketch comedy show ‘Vaya semanita’ (2011), ‘Zuck hor’ (2015), ‘Cuentame como paso’ (2017), ‘Pulsaciones’ (2017), and also many Christmas and New Year Eve TV-specials.
Ituno played lead role as ‘Police inspector Raquel Murillo’ in the Spanish heist crime drama TV series ‘La casa de Papel’ or ‘Money Heist’ (2017-2021). Her recent feature-films are ‘Hil Kanpaiak’ (2020), and ‘Ilargi guztiak’ (2020). The British animated short film ‘Salvation Has No Name’ (2020) was her first English-language film, wherein she provided voice for ‘Priest.’
