Hughie Green made his screen debut in the 1934 British drama film ‘Little Friend,’ directed by Berthold Viertel. Following his debut, he went on to star in films like ‘Radio Pirates’ (1935), ‘Midshipman Easy’ (1935), ‘Melody and Romance’ (1937), ‘Down Our Alley’ (1939), ‘Tom Brown's School Days’ (1940), ‘If Winter Comes’ (1947), ‘Master of Lassie’ (1948), and ‘Paper Orchid’ (1949). In 1949, he came out with the British television show ‘Opportunity Knocks.’ The show first went on-air on the BBC Light Programme but was soon canceled after airing 33 episodes. However, the show was later revived by ITV in 1956 where it ran for 18 seasons before going off-air in 1978. In 1955, he joined the British quiz show ‘Double Your Money’ as host. The show went off-air in 1968 after airing 260 episodes. He was next seen in television shows like ‘Val Parnell's Sunday Night at the London Palladium’ (1957), ‘Jack Hylton's Monday Show’ (1958), ‘Saturday Spectacular’ (1958-1959), ‘The Royal Variety Show’ (1960), ‘The Dickie Henderson Show’ (1960-1961), ‘Thank Your Lucky Stars’ (1961), ‘Ollie and Fred's Five O'Clock Club’ (1963), ‘The Eamonn Andrews Show’ (1966), ‘The Golden Shot’ (1970), ‘Stars on Sunday’ (1971), ‘The Sky's the Limit’ (1971-1974), ‘Whose Baby?’ (1973), ‘The Morecambe & Wise Show’ (1974), ‘Lulu’ (1975), ‘Those Wonderful TV Times’ (1976), and ‘Moon Movies’ (1977).
In 1978, he portrayed ‘Bob Scratchitt’ in the British sex comedy film ‘What's Up Superdoc!,’ directed by Derek Ford. The film was the last big-screen appearance of Green. However, he made brief appearances in television films and shows like ‘Night of One Hundred Stars’ (1980), ‘Some You Win’ (1984), ‘Wogan’ (1985), ‘TV's Greatest Hits’ (1992), ‘Micky Love’ (1993), ‘TFI Friday’ (1996).
