Guillaume Canet made his acting debut in the 1995 short film ‘Fils unique’ directed by Philippe Landoulsi. In 1997, he made his first big-screen appearance in the Philippe Haïm-directed drama thriller film ‘Barracuda’ where he played the role of ‘Luc.’ He went on to star in films like ‘Sentimental Education’ (1998), ‘Ceux qui m'aiment prendront le train’ (1998), ‘En plein cœur’ (1998), ‘Trait d'union’ (1999), and ‘Je règle mon pas sur le pas de mon père’ (1999). In 2000, he starred as ‘Étienne’ in the adventure drama film ‘The Beach’ directed by Danny Boyle. The film, despite receiving a lukewarm response from critics, was a commercial success and grossed over $144.1 million on a budget of $50 million. That same year, he also played the role of ‘Némo’ in the Andrzej Żuławski-directed French drama film ‘Fidelity.’ Canet next starred in films like ‘Les Morsures de l'aube’ (2001), ‘Vidocq’ (2001), ‘Le Frère du guerrier’ (2002), ‘Mille millièmes’ (2002), ‘Mon Idole’ (2002), ‘Love Me If You Dare’ (2003), ‘Narco’ (2004), ‘Joyeux Noël’ (2005), and ‘Hell’ (2005). In 2006, Canet made his feature-length directorial debut with the French neo-noir thriller film ‘Tell No One.’ He was also the writer of the film along with Philippe Lefebvre. The film received wide acclaim upon release and won 4 ‘César Awards’ which included ‘Best Director’ for Canet.
After starring in the films, ‘Ensemble, c'est tout’ (2007), ‘La clef’ (2007), ‘Rivals’ (2008), ‘L'affaire Farewell’ (2009), and ‘The Last Flight’ (2009), Canet wrote and directed the 2010 French comedy-drama film, ‘Little White Lies.’ The film received mixed reviews from critics and grossed over $48.5 million on a budget of $17.6 million. He was next seen in films like ‘Une vie meilleure’ (2011), ‘The Players’ (2012), ‘Jappeloup’ (2013), ‘Turning Tide’ (2013), ‘In the Name of My Daughter’ (2014), ‘The Program’ (2015), ‘Minions’ (2015), ‘Arctic Heart’ (2016), ‘The Siege of Jadotville’ (2016), ‘Rock'n Roll’ (2017), ‘Sink or Swim’ (2018), ‘Non-Fiction’ (2018), and ‘La Belle Époque’ (2019). He was last seen playing the role of ‘Pierre Jarjeau’ in the 2019 biographical drama film ‘Au nom de la terre’ directed by Edouard Bergeon. That same year, he also wrote and directed ‘Little White Lies 2,’ the sequel to his 2010 comedy-drama film ‘Little White Lies.’
