Divya Bharti made her debut in the Telugu-language romantic-action film ‘Bobbili Raja’ (1990), and earned a ‘Filmfare Award for Best Actress-Telugu’ nomination.
After a few not-so-successful films in Tamil/Telugu languages, Bharti’s 1991 Telugu-movies ‘Rowdy Alludu’ and ‘Assembly Rowdy’ were box-office hit. Her next Telugu action-film ‘Dharmakshetram’ was released in 1992.
During this period, Bharti made transition to mainstream Hindi-films, with thriller ‘Vishwatma’ (1992) being her debut Hindi film, which earned her wide popularity for her dance-number ‘Saat Samundar.’ Her next venture, romantic musical-drama ‘Dil Ka Kya Kasoor’ (1992) was a commercial disappointment.
Bharti’s first commercially successful Hindi-film was action romantic-comedy ‘Shola aur Shabnam’ (1992) opposite actor Govinda. Her romantic-drama film ‘Deewana’ (1992), wherein she performed alongside Rishi Kapoor and Shah Rukh Khan, proved a major hit winning acclaim and ‘Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut’ for Bharti. Same year she appeared with Govinda in action romantic-comedy ‘Jaan Se Pyara.’
Bharti featured in action-film ‘Balwaan’ (1992) which was actor Sunil Shetty’s debut film. Her other starrers in 1992 include, romantic-drama ‘Dil Hi Toh Hai,’ action-film ‘Dushman Zamana,’ drama-film ‘Geet,’ and Telugu-movie ‘Chittamma Mogudu.’ She starred as ‘bar-dancer ‘Laila’ in search of her birth mother’ in actress Hema Malini’s directorial romantic-drama ‘Dil Aashna Hai’ (1992).
War-film ‘Kshatriya’ (1993) with an ensemble cast was Bharti’s last release during her lifetime. Romantic-film ‘Rang’ and drama-film ‘Sharanj’ (also, unfinished Telugu-film ‘Tholi Muddu’), which she had completed before her untimely death, were released posthumously in 1993.
