Raoul Bova began his career in 1992 doing an uncredited role in the Italian comedy film ‘Quando eravamo repressi’. He made his debut on television with the 1993 sports drama movie ‘Una storia italiana’ in which he played the role of Giuliano Amitrano. The same year, he appeared in the romance drama movie ‘Piccolo grande amore’. The film, wherein he played the hunky water sports instructor Marco, brought him limelight in Europe. In 1995, he was cast in the role of Agent Nino Di Venanzio in the Italian action crime drama movie ‘Palermo-Milan One Way’. This Claudio Fragasso directed movie bagged him the ‘Flaiano Prize’ for Best Actor and a nomination in the best supporting actor category at the ‘David di Donatello Awards’. Later, he reprised his role in ‘Milan Palermo - The Return’ in 2007. The year 1995 also saw him joining the cast of the Italian crime drama series ‘La Piovra’ in its seventh season. His performance as Gianni Breda made him a household name in Italy and also got him roped in for the following seasons in 1997 and 1998.
The decade of 1990s saw him working in some other movies too like ‘The Nymph’, ‘The Border’, ‘La lupa’ (all 1996), ‘The Mayor’ (1997), ‘Coppia omicida’, ‘Rewind’ (both 1998) and ‘Terra bruciata’ (1999). In 2002, Raoul Bova made his American film debut in the supporting role of Marcello/ Gianni Carboni in Sylvester Stallone starrer romantic comedy crime film ‘Avenging Angelo’. The following year, he was seen in one of the most successful films of his career, the Ferzan Özpetek directed award winning romance drama film ‘Facing Windows’. The same year, he also played the role of Marcello in the American romantic comedy drama film ‘Under the Tuscan Sun’. In 2004, he became a part of the American action-adventure horror movie ‘Alien vs. Predator’. In 2006 and 2007, he appeared in two Italian drama films – ‘Ice on Fire’ (2006) and ‘I, the Other’ (2007). The latter movie earned him the ‘Italian Golden Globe Award’ for Best Actor. In 2006 again, he became a recurring cast member of the American comedy drama series ‘What About Brian’. In 2009, he bagged the main role of Marco Tancredi in the Italian action series ‘Intelligence: Servizi & segreti’. The series has an IMDB rating of 7.3/10. The same year, he was also seen in the action-drama documentary film ‘Sbirri’ which won him the ‘Nastro d'Argento Special Silver Ribbon’ award.
Between 2000 and 2009, he worked in several other television projects including miniseries and movies like ‘Il testimone’ (2001), ‘Francesca e Nunziata’ (2002), ‘Ultimo – L'infiltrato’ (2004), ‘Karol: A Man Who Became Pope’ (2005), ‘Attacco allo Stato’ (2006) and ‘Nassiryia – Per non dimenticare’ (2007). Additionally, he was also seen in an episode each of television series ‘Distretto di polizia’ (2000) and ‘The Company’ (2007). On big screen, the duration saw him acting in movies like ‘The Knights of the Quest’ (2001), ‘Stasera lo faccio’ (2005), ‘Scusa ma ti chiamo amore’ and ‘Aspettando il sole’ (both 2008). He also lent his voice in action-adventure comedy animation film ‘Bolt’ (2008,) and did a cameo appearance in the comedy drama film ‘Baarìa’ (2009).
In 2010, Raoul Bova was cast in main role in the Italian comedy films ‘Sorry If I Want to Marry You’ and ‘Ti presento un amico’ as well as the French-Italian drama film ‘La nostra vita’. His role of Piero in the last film won him a nomination in the best supporting actor category at the ‘David di Donatello Awards’. The same year, he was seen in a supporting role in Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie starrer American romance action thriller film The ‘Tourist’.
Since 2011, he has acted in numerous Italian comedy film including ‘The Immature’ (2011) and its sequel ‘The Immature: The Trip’ (2012), ‘Escort in Love’ (2011), ‘Viva l'Italia’ (2012), ‘Buongiorno papa’, ‘Indovina chi viene a Natale?’ (both 2013), ‘Unique Brothers’, ‘Do You See Me?’ (2014), ‘Ever Been to the Moon?’, ‘The Choice’ and ‘Torno indietro e cambio vita’ (all 2015). For his work in Massimiliano Bruno directed ‘Escort in Love’, he was awarded the ‘Italian Golden Globe Award’ for Best Actor. He was also nominated for Nastro d'Argento Best Actor award for this film as well as Edoardo Leo directed film ‘Buongiorno papà’. In 2016, he was cast in the lead role opposite Sarah Jessica Parker in the Canadian romantic comedy film ‘All Roads Lead to Rome’. In 2019, he lent his voice to the Italian dub version of the animated supernatural black comedy film ‘The Addams Family’.
On television, Raoul Bova was seen in the main role in series ‘Come un Delfino’ (2013, 4 episodes), ‘Fuoco Amico TF45 – Eroe per amore’ (2016, 8 episodes), ‘Medici’ (2018, 6 episodes), La Reina del Sur (2019, 58 episodes) ‘Giustizia per tutti’ (2020, 6 episodes), ‘Buongiorno, mamma!’ (2021, 6 episodes) and ‘Don Matteo’ (2022, 6 episodes).
