Liu Yifei first acted in the 2003 Chinese television series ‘The Story of a Noble Family’ where she played the role of ‘Bai Xiuzhu.’ The following year, she made her big-screen debut in the Taiwanese film ‘Love of May’ directed by Hsu Hsiao-ming. That same year, she also starred in the romantic film ‘The Love Winner.’ She went on to portray ‘Golden Sparrow’ in the 2008 wuxia film ‘The Forbidden Kingdom’ directed by Rob Minkoff. The film received positive reviews with critics praising its fight sequences. ‘The Forbidden Kingdom’ was also a box office success, grossing over $128 million on a budget of $55 million.
Thereafter, she acted in ‘Love in Disguise’ (2010), ‘A Chinese Fairy Tale’ (2011), and ‘White Vengeance’ (2011). In 2012, she starred as ‘Wu Qing’ in the Hong Kong wuxia film ‘The Four’ directed by Gordon Chan and Janet Chun. The film received mixed response from critics. Liu reprised her role as Wu Qing in ‘The Four II’ (2013) and ‘The Four III’ (2014). She was next seen in the 2014 American-Chinese-Canadian ‘Outcast’ where she played the role of ‘Lian.’ The film received negative reviews upon release, with critics calling it “unremarkable” and “lifeless, slightly-entertaining-yet-ultimately-disappointing action “epic.”
She next appeared in films like ‘The Third Way of Love’ (2015), ‘Night Peacock’ (2016), ‘So Young 2: Never Gone’ (2016), ‘Once Upon a Time’ (2017), ‘The Chinese Widow’ (2017), and ‘Hanson and the Beast’ (2017). She was last seen in the 2020 fantasy action drama film ‘Mulan’ directed by Niki Caro. The film earned wide praise for its visuals, action sequences, and performance of the cast. Liu will be next seen in the upcoming Chinese television series ‘The Love of Hypnosis.’
