Al Jolson was an American actor, comedian, and singer. He is known as ‘The World’s Greatest Entertainer.’ He started his career in ‘Broadway’ in 1912, when he appeared in the new ‘Winter Garden Theater.’ Soon, he started giving performances that made audience fell in love with him. He came to be known as the ‘King of Winter Garden’ and starred in plays such as ‘Robinson Crusoe, Jr.’ (1916) and ‘Sinbad’ (1918). In 1927, he starred in the musical film ‘The Jazz Singer’ and soon, took the box-office by storm. His other films include ‘Wonder Bar’ (1934), ‘The Singing Kid’ (1936), ‘Rose of Washington Square’ (1939), ‘The Jolson Story’ (1946), and ‘Jolson Sings Again’ (1949). He was the first entertainer to perform for troops in Africa and Sicily, right after the attack on Pearl Harbor during ‘World War II.’ He remains to be the greatest ‘Broadway’ performer of all time.Â
