Lisa Faulkner made her screen debut in the 1992 romantic drama film ‘The Lover’ directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud. The film was well-received by critics in Europe but received a mixed critical response in the United States. In 1994, she starred as ‘Miss Charlotte’ in the British comedy family film ‘A Feast at Midnight’ directed by Justin Hardy. The film premiered at the London Film Festival. That same year she was also seen in the Cédric Klapisch-directed French coming-of-age comedy-drama ‘Le Péril jeune’ where she portrayed ‘Barbara.’ In 1995, she joined the cast of the British television medical drama series ‘Dangerfield.’ She played the role of ‘Alison Dangerfield’ and starred in 18 episodes. In 1997, Faulkner became a part of the British television soap opera ‘Brookside’ where she grabbed the role of ‘Louise Hope.’ She remained on the show until 1998. She next appeared in television series like ‘Holby City’ (1999-2001), ‘Spooks’ (2002), ‘Burn It’ (2003), ‘Murder in Suburbia’ (2004-2005), ‘New Tricks’ (2005), and ‘New Street Law’ (2006-2007). In 2008, she joined the cast of the BBC television program ‘Heir Hunters’ as a presenter. She stayed for 9 seasons and parted ways from the show in 2016. Faulkner was next seen in television series and shows such as ‘Celebrity MasterChef’ (2010), ‘Murdoch Mysteries’ (2010-2012), ‘Death in Paradise’ (2011), ‘What's Cooking?’ (2013), and ‘This Morning’ (2015). In 2017, she joined the cast of the British soap opera ‘EastEnders,’ created by Julia Smith and Tony Holland. She portrayed ‘Fi Browning’ and appeared in 61 episodes of the show. Faulkner was last seen playing the role of ‘Tessa’ in the 2021 4-part television thriller series ‘The Girl Before,’ created by J.P. Delaney.
Based on real events, The Lover is a romantic drama film which tells the story of a French teenage girl, belonging to a poor family living in a rural area, who begins a forbidden romance with a wealthy older Chinese man. Although they are both aware of the consequences, they proceed with their affair. When the girl’s family finds out, they are initially furious, but they accept it, upon learning that the guy is quite rich. However, the man’s father tells him that he would rather see him dead than with a white girl.
